Age 95, of Watkins Glen, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility in Montour Falls, NY. She was born Alice Rosella Devendorf on December 2, 1917 to Nora and Gilbert Devendorf in Mallory, NY. She was married to John C. Church from 1938 until his death in 1942. She married Charles Baker in 1945 and lived in Chemung County until 1956 when they moved to Hector. In 1995 she relocated to Watkins Glen. Alice is survived by her 98 year old sister, Evelyn Cady, of Baldwinsville, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Sue Church Smith and Clint Smith of Telford, TN; daughter Jo Church Abbie of Romulus; and daughter Charlene Baker of Ithaca; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Alice retired from the Marine Midland Bank in 1980 after 25 years. She continued serving her community first and foremost in the Hector and Watkins Glen Presbyterian Churches, primarily working with financial records. She also volunteered at the Arc of Schuyler and served many years on its board, and concerned always for the quality of life of the people they served. She also served 13 years on the Schuyler County Mental Health Board. In 2003 she was honored by the Hospital Auxiliary for 3,500 volunteer hours at the Schuyler Hospital gift shop. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Thursday, from 4pm-6pm; followed by a funeral service at 6pm. A committal service and burial will be held Friday at 11am at the North Syracuse Cemetery. Those wishing may consider a memorial donation in her memory to her churches, The Arc of Schuyler or the Schuyler Hospital Auxiliary. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
