Charles J. Simon

Age 65, of Hector, and formerly Geneva, NY, passed away unexpectedly on August 16, 2024 at home.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in his hometown of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. 

Charles was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, the son of the late Philipp and Yvonne Simon on March 28, 1959. 

He earned his PhD from Cornell University and dedicated his career as a Plant Geneticist for the US Department of Agriculture at the Cornell University Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva. His work primarily specialized with the grape genetics repository. His interests outside of work included woodworking, collecting old cars and trucks, and playing classical guitar. 

He is survived by his wife Vicky; their son Charles M. Simon of Ithaca; brothers, Philipp (Sandra) Simon, and James Simon, both of Madison, WI; sister, Michelle Simon of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and sister-in-law, Susan Ziemba, of Tacoma, Washington.
