Charles J. Smith Sr.
Age 75, passed away after an extended illness on March 9, 2011.
There are no prior visiting hours. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Watkins Glen Fire Department, 201 N. Perry St., on Saturday (March 12th) at 1:00pm. A Fire Fighters Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm at the fire department.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Donna Smith; children, Jennifer, Charles II (Mary), Renee (Ken), Patti, Dominick (Stacey), Judson (Tara); sisters, Tina DeMott and Judy Scaptura; sisters-in-law, Andrea, Diane and Carol; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charlie retired from Cargill in Watkins Glen in 1997 after 33 years of service. He served as the Past Assistant Fire Chief of the Watkins Glen Fire Department, where he volunteered for 48 years. He also served as Fire Commissioner and on the Board of Directors for the fire department. He was also a recipient of the Fire Fighter of the Year Award and served in the US Army. Charlie currently worked for Office of the Aging and Meals-on-Wheels.
