Age 88 of Watkins Glen, NY, passed away on December 27, 2016. The family will receive friends at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Friday, December 30, from 12pm-2pm; followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Born and raised in Sugar Run, PA, she and her husband later bought a farm in 1958 in Watkins Glen. She was a long time farmer, who also loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens. When they retired from farming they opened a small natural food store (Shaffer’s Farms) at their place and sold cheese, eggs, and many other products. She was also dedicated to helping with many church functions. She was predeceased by her husband Lewis Shaffer and son-in-law, Philip Chartrand. She is survived by her children, Janet Chartrand, Susan (Chet) Buckley, Albert (Janice) Shaffer; sisters, Edith, Joanie and Lulu Bell; brothers, Arthur, Harold and Lyle; grandchildren, Vikki Pike (Lynn Force), Christopher (Susan) Pike, Tonya (Dustin) Shelton, Adam Chartrand, Jered (Belinda) Buckley, Craig (Rachel) Buckley, Adam (Ginny Lee) Shaffer, Jessie Shaffer, and Brooke Shaffer; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 520 N. Decatur St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891.
