Douglas Voorheis

January 28, 1943 — April 6, 2018

Douglas William Voorheis
REYNOLDSVILLE: Age 75, of Reynoldsville, NY, passed away suddenly on the afternoon of April 6, 2018 at Cayuga Medical Center surrounded and supported by his immediate family. Doug was born and raised in Reynoldsville. He proudly served his country in the Air Force as well as in the Navy as a Seabee. It was in the Air Force where Doug assembled parachutes that he developed his skill as a seamster. He later transferred this skillset over into a small side business which included boat top repair/replacement and upholstery work. Doug was also an accomplished machinist who worked tirelessly and meticulously at NCR, Shepard-Niles, Schuyler Dynamics and Borg Warner, where he retired in 2006. Upon completing his service, he married his first wife, Nancy Orchard. He built the home that he lived in adjacent to his childhood home located on the south end of the small hamlet of Reynoldsville. Doug later married his second wife, June Fleet Voorheis, in the spring of 1987. Doug loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. He loved the home that he built and took pride in developing the property the way his father had always dreamed. It was common for Doug to be seen gazing over his pond watching the wildlife that made his property their home. Doug is predeceased by his loving wife June Voorheis and parents, Keith C. and Mary Voorheis. Together their loving home served as a center place for all manner of large family get togethers. Doug leaves behind his daughter, Wendy (Dan Fox) Edwards; Bonnie (Ronnie) Shiflett, Dennis (Sonya) Voorheis, Brenda (Michael) Cooper, Jacqueline (Jake) Jacobs, Bridget (Thomas) Lorow, and Lawrence (Patricia) Banfield, Jr.; brothers, Keith “Tom” (Nancy) Voorheis, Charles (Carolyn) Voorheis, John (Tracy) Voorheis, and Paul (Donna) Voorheis; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We find ourselves blessed to know that Doug and June are reunited, and their love now surrounds and fills a part of us all. The family will be present to receive friends and family at Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St. in Watkins Glen, NY on Thursday (April 12th) from 10:00 - 12:00 with a funeral service beginning at 12pm. Immediately following will be a graveside service with military honors at Hector Union Cemetery, Burdett, with reception to gather after at the Reynoldsville United Methodist Church. Contributions in Doug’s memory be made to the Burdett Fire Company, PO Box 238; Burdett, NY 14818. You may express condolences to the family online at www.RoyceChedzoy.com.
