Edward Austic

May 14, 1927 — July 31, 2008

Edward F. Austic

Age 81, recently of the Jefferson Village, Watkins Glen and formerly of Trumansburg, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2008.

Following Ed’s wishes, there are no calling hours. A brief service will be held at the graveside at Beaver Dams Cemetery, Beaver Dams, NY, on Wednesday, August 13, at 11:00am.

Ed was born in Trumansburg, NY on May 14, 1927 to the late Herbert and Dorothy Demmick Austic. On January 4, 1947 he married Hildreth Hurlburt with whom he was given children, Duwayne, Dorothy, Janet and Gerrett who survive. In addition, Ed is mourned by several grandchildren, including his special buddy Zachary of Watkins Glen and very devoted loving friend Arlene Conover of Ithaca; and nieces and nephews.

Ed was a jack of all trades; at various times employed in the building trades. His true calling was in auto body repair work. For many years he operated A&M Auto Body Repair in Trumansburg.

Ed was predeceased by his parents; sister Evelyn Richar, and brothers Clinton and Albert.

Living in Watkins Glen gave Ed the chance to spend many happy hours watching wrestling with DuWayne and his favorite grandson Zac. They watched both the WWF on television and in person, as well as seeing Zac wrestle for the Watkins Glen Senecas. A former bowler, Ed also frequented the lanes in Watkins to watch Zac bowl, as well as visiting and talking with members of the senior bowling league. He was not always thrilled about being outdoors at night in the damp and chilly fall air, but he frequently attended football games to watch Zac.

Town living also gave Ed a great chance to walk. He loved to walk about town and chat with the local shopkeepers. One of his favorite stops on his tour was the True Value Hardware where he could chat with pleasant company.
