Elaine Cherock

Elaine Carol Cherock of Corning, NY passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026 at the age of 82 with her devoted daughters by her side. Elaine was born on June 10, 1943 in Corning, NY to the late Harry and Norma Willett Moore. She had a happy childhood with wonderful parents and a loving family. She attended Northside High School, graduating in 1961. Elaine began a successful career as a secretary at Corning Incorporated where she worked for 30 years. She loved her job, spoke of it often, and the people she worked with who became lifelong friends.

Elaine married her husband, Jim, in 1963 at St. Vincent's Catholic Church. She has two children, Cheryl and Michelle, who were the light of her life - along with many beloved family pets throughout the years. Anyone who knew Elaine, knew about her incredible love for animals. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corning. Elaine loved God very much and was one of the most generous people you could ever meet. She spent many years volunteering at the Big Flats Food Pantry and took great pleasure in giving to those in need - family, friends and strangers alike. Her generosity knew no bounds.

Elaine was an inquisitive person, always wanting to know "why" about various things. She was politely persistent and rarely took no for an answer. Where there was a will, there was a way! She had a special knack for crafting and loved to decorate, particularly during the holidays. Elaine enjoyed shopping and spending time at home, especially in her pool during the summer. Even more so, she enjoyed inviting people over to swim so they too could enjoy her heated pool! Elaine absolutely loved visits from family and friends over the years and countless memories were made in the very special home she lived in for 56 years.

Elaine was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, James (Jim) Cherock (2013), her brothers Edwin Moore (Pam) and William McGettrick (Kay), and sister Patricia Myers (Robert). She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Cobb (Scott) and Michelle Cherock, both of Elmira, NY; sisters Patricia Fitzpatrick (Richard) of Jacksonville, FL and Jacqueline Woughter (Terry) of Gillett, PA; and her brothers in-law Bill Cherock (Irene) of Charleston, SC and Skip Cherock of Houston, TX. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and numerous friends and neighbors, all whom she loved very much.

On behalf of Cheryl and Michelle, we thank you for the role you played in our mother's life and hope you find comfort in the fond memories you have of her and in knowing she is finally Home and at peace. In lieu of flowers, if you'd like to honor Elaine, a donation to your local SPCA would be appreciated. A private burial will be held at Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats. Remembrances or expressions of sympathy may be made online at Royce-Chedzoy.com.
