Age 92, of Watkins Glen, passed away August 7, 2012. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Monday (August 13th) from 6-8pm; followed by a funeral service at 8:00pm. Her burial and committal service will be held Tuesday at 11:00am at Sugar Hill Cemetery. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Susan Terwilliger; husband, Bernard; children, Wayne, Marvin and Larry Thorpe; and 3 grandchildren. She is survived by 9 children, Roberta (Roland) Thorpe, Charlotte (Peter) Bond, Laura Kent (Gil LeRoux), Lola Ray, Pearl Champion, William Thorpe, Jay (Virginia) Thorpe, Sue (Robert) Olevnik, and Rhea Serefine; 31 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Evelyn resided at Jefferson Village in Watkins Glen for over 20 years, and was one of the first 10 original residents. During WWII she worked at the Eclipse, She later worked for Cornell Cooperative Extension as a nutrition aide for many years. Her hobbies included crocheting hats and gloves for the children of Schuyler County and the Bath VA, as well as crocheting blankets for babies born at Schuyler Hospital. She was a devoted RSVP volunteer, receiving the honor RSVP Senior Citizen of the year in 1994 as well as numerous other awards such as, the Presidents Volunteer Service award, and the Souhan Award for her volunteer service at the Willard Psych Center in the 1980’s.
