Flora McIntyre Hillerman

Age 95, of Reading Center, NY went to be with the Lord on December 16, 2006. She was surrounded by her family at the Sunset House in Dundee, NY.

The family will receive friends at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Thursday, Dec. 21, from 5-7pm; with the funeral service to follow at 7:00pm; Rev. Jeanne Bleiler officiating; the committal service will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery, in Reading Center at 10:00am the following morning

Flora Viola Alderman was born on Oct. 23, 1911 to Furman and Alice May Deming Alderman. She was adopted with one of her sisters, Freada Alderman (Landers), by Leon and Grace McIntyre of Reading Center. Flora graduated from Watkins Glen High School and from Meekers Business Institute of Elmira. She married Gilbert H. Hillerman on July 2, 1932 and they celebrated 70 years together. She was predeceased by her husband in February 2003.

Flora is survived by her sons, William (Mary Beard) Hillerman of Nassau, NY, Larry (Suzanne Hall) Hillerman of Reno, Nevada; and daughter Linda (Hillerman) Dale Jaynes of Burdett, NY; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friends and caregivers, Helen Halbritter, Judy and Holly Duquette of Dundee, NY and Barbara Bell of Irelandville, NY.

Flora worked at the Watkins Glen Salt Co. as a secretary for 24 years. Later, she went and worked for the Watkins Glen School System. Flora was very active in the Reading Community Church and the Ladies Aid, a RSVP member and volunteer, and was a 7th degree Grange member. She helped deliver Meals on Wheels for 20 years with her husband.
