G. Robert Harrison

G. (George) Robert Harrison, Age 91, formerly of Odessa NY, passed away peacefully at Van Duyn Home and Hospital in Syracuse NY, January 24, 2013. Robert was born May 13, 1921 in the Town of Virgil, Cortland County. He was the son of the late Ellsworth R. Harrison and Leola Wilson Harrison Sayre. He married Geraldine N. Churchill (who predeceased him on January 15, 2012) on February 14, 1942. The couple enjoyed nearly 71 years of marriage. He is survived by his three children, Jon R. Harrison of Rochester NY, Nancy H. Dean of Dawson Springs KY, and Elizabeth H. Chapman of Syracuse NY; his brother Edward Harrison of Summerfield Florida; and his many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Robert was a long standing member of the Odessa United Methodist Church. He is a Veteran of World War II, having proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps in China Burma and India. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Cole-Hansenberger-Deland Post 676 of the American Legion, having held all post and county offices as well as many District and Department offices. He was also a member of the recently disbanded China Burma India Veterans Association. Robert served several terms as Village Trustee and Town of Montour Councilman. Robert was formerly employed at several local automotive establishments and most recently served for 20 years as Schuyler County Director of Weights and Measures. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing regularly with family and friends as a member of the Trumansburg Golf Club. Calling hours will be Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 10 am – 12 pm at Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home 212 E. 4th Street, Watkins Glen, NY. Followed by a funeral service on Saturday February 2, at 2 pm at the Odessa United Methodist Church, Church Street, Odessa NY. A brief interment ceremony will follow the funeral at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Alpine NY (weather permitting).
