77, of Burdett, NY, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY. Gene loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. His dog Jack would follow him everywhere. He raised numerous types of animals and birds on his farm. He also loved woodcarving fish. Gene was well known as “The Butcher” in the small family owned grocery store, “Gene’s Budget Market” in Burdett, back in the 1960’s. He later worked at the Watkins Glen State Park until he retired. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 10am-12pm at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen. A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm at the funeral home; Rev. Mike Kelly officiating; followed by a committal service at the Union Cemetery of Hector, Burdett, NY. Gene was born in Ilion, NY, the son of the late Glenn and Doris Robertson. He was also predeceased by his wife of almost 50 years, Joyce in 2004; and a brother Glenn “Bob” Robertson. He is survived by four children, Pamela (husband Harold) Marsh, Lori Robertson (husband Bill Barnhart), Brian (wife Sandra) Robertson, all of Hector; and Marjorie (Joe) Guerriero of Beaufort, SC; brother, Gary (Betty) Robertson of Burdett; sister-in-law, Rosa Robertson of Interlaken; special friend Jean Pike and best friend and hunting buddy, Robert “Bob” Lovell; also several nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
