Herbert L. Oliver
Age 90, of Horseheads, NY passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at home.
He was born February 27, 1931, in Penn Yan, NY, to the late Robert and Ruby (Morrow) Oliver. Herbert was also predeceased by his wife of almost 58 years, Clarabell Oliver in 2015, and their grandson, Jacob Erik Oliver in 1996. He was also predeceased by his brothers, John and Ray Oliver.
Herbert is survived by his sons and daughters, Gerald (Bonnie) Roe of Tennessee, Kevin (Linda) Roe of Arizona, Keith (Vicky) Oliver, Kathy (Mike) Kinner, and James (Cristina) Oliver, all of Horseheads, NY; sisters, Edna Husted of Watkins Glen, Frances VanDyke of Dundee, Joane (Charles) Stevenson of Burdett, and Mary Hoose of Townsend; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was a member of Monterey Baptist Church and US Army Veteran. He was also a member of the Elmira Heights American Legion, Montour Moose Club, and locally active in the Vigilantes and "Posse Group". He was a well-known horse dealer and enjoyed everything horse related. Herbert and his late wife, Clara, owned and operated C & H Tack Shop in Horseheads. He retired from AKZO Nobel Salt after 41 years of service, retiring as the Packaging Superintendent.
Family and friends may call at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Friday, January 14 from 4pm-6pm; where his service will follow at 6:00 pm with his friend and Pastor the Rev. Robert Stuart officiating. A committal service with military honors will be held Saturday at 10am at Beaver Dams Cemetery.
