James E. Carnahan

December 20, 1935 — April 17, 2025

James E. Carnahan, Sr.

Age 89, of Hector, NY, passed away April 17, 2025.

Jim was born at home in Hector on December 20, 1935, the son of Ray and Esther Carnahan. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as two brothers, Gary and Ken Carnahan.

He is survived by his wife Jean Carnahan; children, Terrie Stewart of Burdett, James Jr (Sheila) Carnahan of Redfield, NY, Linda (Jim) Potter of Valois, Karen (John) Darling of Interlaken; stepsons, Tim (Cathy) Haire of Interlaken, and Bruce Haire of Ovid; sister, Patricia Galbreath of South Carolina; and several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

After school, Jim served in the US Army. Upon his return, he first worked for the Schuyler County Highway Department. He retired from Central Asphalt where he worked as a mechanic for 44 years. He never really considered himself retired, as he always enjoyed helping neighbors with their mowing and working on their equipment.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. The Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home of Watkins Glen is assisting the family. Jim’s hardworking spirit and willingness to lend a hand will be missed by all who knew him.
