James Dunlap

December 31, 1969 — June 23, 2014

James Clifford Dunlap (Waneta Lake) lost a courageous battle with lung disease on June 23, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Helen Ann Bonin, his best friend and partner. James is also survived by daughter, Kathleen (Martin) Haibach of Rochester and family: Samantha, Tim, Jossie and Jackson Specht of Rochester; Jessica, Tim, Tyler, Wyatt and Sarah Gross of Illinois; Amanda, Dan, Abbey, Bella and Danny Cutter of Illinois; Matthew, Bridget and Liam Haibach of NJ; daughter, Linda and family: Lee and Lindsey Tuttle of California, and son Brian (Kathlyn) Dunlap of California; son Jeff’s children: Kelly, Jeffrey, Adam and Craig. Also surviving are mother-in-law (Helen Bonin), sister-in-law Ruth (James) Rachow and family, and brothers-in-law Timothy (Bonny) Bonin and family, and George (Brenda) Bonin and family, several cousins, nieces/nephews, and many dear friends from Waneta Lake, Wayne American Legion #1208, Watkins Glen B.P.O.E. 1546 and close Canadian friends who shared their lives with him. James will also be deeply missed by his dogs Lacey and Trixie. James was predeceased by parents: Howard and Mary (Chesonis) Dunlap of Elmira, son Jeff Dunlap, first wife Elizabeth Durham, brother Raymond and wife Marie, father-in-law Harold Bonin, niece Ginny Starkweather. James was a decorated Korean War Veteran, serving in the 11th Airborne Division (Japan) and 31st Regimental Combat Team. After military service, James attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute receiving a BA degree in civil engineering. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in NY and served as President and CEO of Lozier Engineers, Inc., Rochester, NY, retiring in 1985. James was a well-regarded member of many professional organizations throughout his life. Friends and family are invited to attend a military service at 1:00pm on Friday, August 8, at Bath National Cemetery, 1 Veterans Avenue, Bath, NY. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date. Donations are requested to the American Lung Association, 1595 Elmwood Avenue, Suite B, Rochester, NY 14620.
