James Powers

James M. Powers,


Age 70, of Watkins Glen, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 5, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Ruth (Shultz) Powers; three children, Rebecca (John) Pezzulo of Seneca Falls, Wendy (Mike) Didas of Dansville, and Michael (Jamie) Powers of Watkins Glen; brother, Thomas (Alice) Powers of Hector; also eight grandchildren, Jessica and T.J. Pezzulo; Margorie, Sabrina and Hope Didas; Quincy, Jacob and Joshua Powers; and many special friends.


There are no prior visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 520 N. Decatur St., Watkins Glen at 10:00am on Saturday, January 9, 2010; Rev. Beverly Karr-Lyon will officiate. A reception will be held following services.


Jim was born on August 12, 1939, the son of Bernard and Lucile Powers. He was a graduate of Watkins Glen High School Class of 1957. Jim served as a NYS Trooper from 1961 to 1981; last serving with Troop E in Horseheads, NY. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Watkins Glen, the Mechanics Club of Montour Falls, a lifetime member of the Elks, B.P.O.E. 1548 of Watkins Glen, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 426 of Montour Falls.


In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider a donation in his memory to the American Cancer Society or in honor of his grand daughter Quincy Powers, to the Friedrich’s Ataxia Research Alliance, 102 Pickering Way, Suite 200, Exton, PA 19341.
