James W. Sager

Age 61, of Montour Falls, NY passed away July 10, 2025.

James W. Sager was born in Ithaca, NY. In his younger years, he lived in Henrietta outside of Rochester, and later lived outside of Trumansburg, on Cayuga Lake, next door to his grandparent's cottage. In his adulthood, James spent time in San Diego, California with family, then later moved Mississippi where he met his beloved wife, and finally raised their sons in upstate New York.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Catherine Sager, and their beloved sons, Aaron Tyler Sager of Trumansburg and James Trever Sager of Montour Falls. In addition, James is survived by his four sisters: Susan (Jim) Cole of Syracuse, Donna (Dan) Orr of Mississippi, Janet Sager (Mike McWhorter) of California, Helen Orlando of Canandaigua, and his brother Ted Friel of Philadelphia. He is survived by extended family, including several nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends, who have been touched by the warmth of his spirit.

James was a proud member of the Local Carpenters Union #277 in Horseheads. His first experience in construction started when he was 14 years old. He rebuilt his family home after a tragic fire, along with his father, family, and friends. He was a Trumansburg High School graduate, class of 1983, and member of the high school basketball team. He maintained lifelong friendships with his many of his classmates. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially time spent hunting, fishing, and gardening. He raised many types of spring flowers, trees, and tropical plants.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate James's life on Wednesday, July 16th, at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, located at 212 E. 4th St, Watkins Glen. Visitation will be from 12 - 2pm, followed by a time of sharing memories and stories of James' life from 2 - 4pm. Those attending are encouraged to bring a story to share or to visit his online tribute at www.RoyceChedzoy.com to share memories with his family and friends. Casual attire is preferred, James loved tie dye.
