Jane B. Ganung

December 31, 1969 — September 25, 2014

Jane B. Ganung, age 92, of Moreland, was granted her angel wings on September 25, 2014. Jane was the youngest of Harry and Hattie (Harriet) Barrett’s three daughters, born September 15, 1922, in Montour Falls, NY. She attended Wedgewood Number 9 Elementary School and graduated from Watkins Glen Central High School in June of 1940. She earned a degree from Elmira Business Institute and worked for American La France in Elmira, NY. Jane married her high school sweetheart, Roger W. Ganung on December 15, 1942. Together, Jane and Roger managed their successful family dairy farm for decades. Roger predeceased Jane in November 1993, after 50 years of marriage. In 1967, they were the American Field Service host family for James Ndegwa of Kenya, Africa. Jane is also predeceased by her sisters, Elnora Jacobs and Virginia Rodabaugh. She is survived by her son, James R. Ganung and his wife Ann of North Kingstown, RI; and her daughter, Cathy Ann Kennedy and her husband Don of State College, PA. She leaves four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Susan and David Tremblay of Providence, RI, and their sons Henry and Marcus; Emily and Ben Darby of East Kingston, NH, and their sons Jacob and Nicholas; Sara and Paul Yoder of Mechanicsburg, PA, and their children Sadie and Seth; and Sean Kennedy of Auburn, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jane was an active volunteer in many community organizations including her church, Moreland Presbyterian, and the Schuyler County Historical Society. Her greatest joys were her flowers and baking for community and family events. Her favorite hymn was "Brighten the Corner Where You Are." Her family recognizes the special care that she has received in recent years at Appleridge Assisted Living in Horseheads, and more recently at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility in Montour Falls. The care and concern of staff members brought her great comfort during her later years. Her life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 10 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Moreland Presbyterian Church with Pastor Anne Campbell. A private graveside ceremony for the immediate family will be held following the church service. All are invited to a luncheon at the Moreland Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Presbyterian Church of Moreland, the Schuyler County Historical Society or Seneca View. You may view her memorial or guestbook online at www.Royce-Chedzoy.com. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home of Watkins Glen.
