Jean Elizabeth Coolican

Age 83 of 404 7th St., Watkins Glen, NY passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, NY.


Friends are invited to call at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, NY on Monday, March 23, from 3 to 6:00pm. Mrs. Coolican's Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen; with Rev. Paul Bonacci. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Watkins Glen.


Jean was born February 6, 1926 in Elmira, NY; the daughter of the late Anthony and Annabelle Warner Martine. She was a graduate of Watkins Glen High School and worked at Sampson Air Force Base during World War II. Mrs. Coolican later worked at the Town House in Watkins Glen as a waitress. She married her husband, John Githler Coolican, on November 17, 1945 at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church. Jean was a communicant of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church and a member of the St. Mary’s Guild. She was also as an avid doll collector.


She is survived by her loving children, Karen (Wayne) Wasiczko of Selah, WA, J. David (Abbie) Coolican of Montour Falls, Michael B. (Sally) Coolican of Watkins Glen, Paul P. Coolican of Amherst, Stephen W. Coolican of Alpine; 12 grandchildren; Christie and Brian Coolican of Watkins Glen, Justin Coolican of Odessa, Sean Coolican of Los Angeles, CA, Mark Coolican of Murfreesboro, TN, Jeffrey Coolican of Portland, ME, Rachel and Nicole Coolican of East Amherst NY, Kimberly Wasiczko of Denver CO, Jennifer (Philip) White of Seattle WA, Allyson (Jeremy) Hubbard of Loma Linda CA, Dr. Trisha (Tyler) Kruger of Hershey PA; step-granddaughter, Megan (Mitch) Hoffman of Stamford, CT; 2 Great-granddaughters, Addison and Molly Coolican of Watkins Glen; step great-grandson, Maddox Hoffman; sister-in-law, Dr. Patricia M. Coolican of Corvallis, OR; and several nieces and nephews.


Jean was predeceased by her husband John in May 2003; daughter Elizabeth J. “Beth” Coolican in March 1983; parents; and sister Shirley Martine Mowry in May 1982.
