Joel Michael Skorusa

Joel Michael Skorusa, 46, of Horseheads, New York, passed away suddenly at his home on August 17, 2026. He was born on January 26, 1980, in Geneva, New York.

Joel graduated from Watkins Glen High School, where he was a state-ranked champion wrestler, which reflected his determination, strength, and dedication.

Joel was a kind and loving person who touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. He had a gentle heart and a special love for music and animals. His beloved cat, Timmy, held a particularly special place in his heart and was a cherished companion to him.

Joel is survived by his mother, Kathy Miles, and stepfather, John Miles; his brother, Joshua Skorusa; and his best friend and roommate, Anne Praino. He is also survived by his stepbrother Jeffrey and stepsister Jamie, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, including his much-adored niece and nephew, Kaleb and Maci Skorusa.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Skorusa, and his grandparents, Walter and Nellie Skorusa and Gordon and Norma Mehlenbacher.

Joel will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His kindness, loving nature, accomplishments, and the memories he created with those he loved will remain in their hearts. Though his life was far too short, the love he gave and the lives he touched will never be forgotten.

Services will be private. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Dundee.
