John Corwin

John W. Corwin
Age 96, died peacefully on March 10, 2016. He was a life-long resident of Watkins Glen. John was predeceased by Rosemary Corwin, his loving wife, in 2003. John and his sisters (Helen Cass and Mary Corwin) were raised by parents Ray and Mae Corwin on the family farm in Watkins Glen. He leaves behind three daughters Barbara (Grover) White, Carol Corwin, Marcia (Dan Gehl) Holmes, one son Kenneth (Phyllis) Corwin, three beloved grandchildren Kelly Corwin, Jennifer Corwin, and Langdon (Donna) Holmes, and one great grandchild Wyatt Holmes. He is also survived by personal friend, June Updyke. John was a proud World War II Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient. He served in the 36th Engineer Regiment (Combat Division). After the war, he became a heavy equipment operator and contractor, and then worked as an employee for the Town of Dix, where he later was elected several times as Highway Superintendent and County Highway Superintendent. His love for planes and Harley Davidson motorcycles started in his youth and lasted his entire life. John enjoyed hunting, bowling, square dancing, welding and playing a variety of musical instruments. John will be remembered for his kindness, his friendly demeanor, and for his love of family. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Tuesday (March 15th) from 4pm-6pm; funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00am at the Moreland Community Presbyterian Church, 3045 Beaver Dams/Moreland Rd., Beaver Dams, NY.
