Louis Leach

February 24, 1921 — June 30, 2011

Louis Leach, of Rock Stream, NY, passed away on June 30, 2011 in Gainesville, Virginia, after a wonderful life spanning 90 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Dora Leach, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage; his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and James Mueller of Chantilly, VA; and his grandsons, Matthew Mueller and wife Katherine Shaver of Dubai, UAE, and Christopher Mueller of Chantilly, VA. Louis was predeceased by his younger brother, Frank. Born on February 24th, 1921 in Elmira to Patrick and Angela; Louis joined the US Army Air Force after graduating high school and served as a liaison pilot, radioman, and gunner in the 15th Air Force in Italy during WWII. They married June 19th, 1943 in Camden, South Carolina during flight school. After leaving the military, Louie had a career with Wine Merchant's Ltd, before retiring. Throughout his long life, Louie's love of flying was ever-present, and he spent many long nights with his aircraft radio, or just watching planes fly overhead. "Uncle Louie" was an unforgettable figure to his large family and many friends, frequently hosting them at the couple's Rock Stream lake house. No visit seemed complete without one of his colorful stories, the smoke from his pipe, and the warmth of his humor. Louie volunteered his time in Schuyler County as a Board Member of the Arc, and as a member of the Elks Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on July 28 at Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. Fourth St., Watkins Glen, NY. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 AM on July 29 at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church, 905 Decatur St., Watkins Glen. A reception until 2 PM will follow burial at Holy Cross Cemetery at the Elks Lodge, 300 N. Madison Ave., Watkins Glen. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arc of Schuyler, 203 12th St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891. Please leave condolences online in "Obituaries" at www.Royce-Chedzoy.com.
