Louis Meehan

Louis J. Meehan
Age 85, of County Line Road, Watkins Glen, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2011 at Seneca View in Montour Falls.

The family will received friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Thursday, August 25, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, August 26th at 9:30am at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen, the Rev. Paul Bonacci was the celebrant. Burial and committal services followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Louis was born March 28, 1926, at home on the land that was first settled by his family in 1810, in the Town of Reading. He was the son of the late John D. and Esther (Carney) Meehan. He was a lifelong Dairy Farmer and a former president, director, and agent of the Finger Lakes Casualty Insurance Company. He also worked as an assessor for the towns of Montour Falls and Reading. Lou was a communicant of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, member of BPOE 1546 Order of Elks and the Order of Redman of Watkins Glen.

He was predeceased by his son, James Woodworth, and a brother, William Meehan. Lou is survived by his wife, Anne Meehan; step-children, Larry (Sheila) Woodworth of Hector, Nan Woodworth-Shaw (George Shaw) of Watkins Glen, Morgan (Linda) Woodworth of Covington, PA; brother and sisters, Kay Smith of Illinois, Vera Franzese of Watkins Glen, and Tom Meehan of Honeoye Falls; daughter-in-law, Lee Anne Woodworth of Watkins Glen; sister-in-law, Patricia Meehan of Watkins Glen; 6 grandchildren, Emily Bozeat, Paul (Viola) Woodworth, Leah Shaw, Rachel Shaw, Zach Woodworth, and Sameh Shaw; 2 great-grandchildren, Lester and Anna Bozeat; and many nieces and nephews.
