Luther “Luke” Palmer went to be with his Lord October 6, 2010 at the age of 78 years. Luke was the beloved husband of Marie Palmer and son of the late Luther and Alice Palmer. He was born in Moultrie, Georgia and left home at an early age to join the United States Air Force (USAF). It was during this service in the USAF that he met his wife Marie while stationed at Burtonwood Air Force Base in Warrington, England. He served in the USAF from 1947 – 1952 finishing his service at Sampson Air Force Base, Sampson NY.


A meat cutter by trade, he was employed by several different food chains including owner / operator of the Montour Falls, NY Big “M” Market and meat department manager at various P&C food market locations.


After retirement, he spent many years gardening, camping, enjoying his family and working tirelessly for the American Legion Post #0676 in Odessa, NY where he served as cook, member of the board of directors for the Schuyler County Veterans Park and served as Schuyler County’s American Legion Chaplain.


He was an active member of the Reynoldsville United Methodist Church for over 58 years serving in various capacities including chairman of the board of trustees.


Luke is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marie. Three children, Ralph, Keri(Bill) Lanning and Mark (Sue) Palmer; 8 grandchildren (Alicia, Stephanie, Nate, Luke, Seth, Nikki, Stephen and Chloe and 2 great grandchildren (Lilly and Emily)


Friends and family may attend a memorial service on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Reynoldsville United Methodist Church, Reynoldsville, NY. Officiating the service will be Pastor Mike Kelly and the Reverend Judy White. The service will be followed by food and fellowship in the fellowship hall.
