Margery Thyer

January 1, 1917 — November 16, 2009

Age 92, formerly of Montour Falls and Watkins Glen, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility in Montour Falls.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 6-8 p.m. at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. James’ Episcopal Church; The Rev. Michael Hartney officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery.

Margery was predeceased by her husband, Reginald R. Thyer, in 1977. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Martin Rigden of Watkins Glen; three grandchildren, Teri (John) Parks of Syracuse; Amy (David) Munnings of Hamlin; and Warren Eckelberger of Elmira Heights; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Margery began her nursing career in 1935. She worked as a Public Health Nurse for Schuyler County for 15 years before retiring at age 82 in 1999. She worked as a Registered Nurse/Midwife for 64 years. Margery moved to Schuyler County in 1968 from England. She was a member of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Watkins Glen, a member of Eastern Star Fern Chapter 142, and a member of the Watkins Glen BPW. She faithfully volunteered in her community, including work for the Schuyler Hospital Auxiliary, Reading Buddy Program, and St. James’ Thrift Shop.
