Marian "Dottie" Boyce

December 3, 1925 — April 19, 2015

Boyce, Marian L. (Morehouse)

Mrs. Marian Louise “Dottie” Boyce, age 89, of Watkins Glen was carried by the angels to Heaven on Sunday, April 19, 2015. Marian was born on December 3, 1925, the daughter of the late Clifford and Marcella (Mathews) Morehouse. She was a 1943 graduate of Watkins Glen High School. She married her husband Frederick H. Boyce on February 16, 1946 and he predeceased her in 1984 after 38 years of marriage. Marian was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law; Clifford & Darlene Morehouse of Watkins Glen. Her work career spanned many decades which included a bank teller, office worker, and law secretary. Most of her life was spent working for Dr. Larry & Ruth Freeman at the American Life Foundation in Irelandville. She retired from Schuyler County Public Health and as the Dix Town Clerk. While in her 80’s her work career included internal claims auditor for the Watkins Glen School, and Town of Dix and Schuyler County Historian. Marian and Fred raised their family in the small hamlet of Townsend. Her life was filled with volunteering. She was a Sunday school teacher, 4-H leader, and advocate for the Schuyler County Youth Fair. With her love for learning, she was proud to serve as a Watkins Glen School board member. Marian was a 75-year member of Townsend Grange #1208. She was essential in coordinating the members in the operation of a food concession stand at WGI. She looked forward to organizing the annual Grange Halloween party to see the neighborhood children with their costumes. At the state Grange level she served on committees and was a past NYS Grange Jr. Deputy. Her great knowledge of the Townsend area and Schuyler County led her to many years of volunteering at the Schuyler County Historical Society. We all enjoyed her many stories of how life was in her younger years growing up. Most of all, her happiest times were spent with family. Birthday parties, graduations, weddings, and summer picnics gave her the most joy. Marian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend to many. She will be greatly missed by her family and by all who knew her.
