Mark Joseph Smith

81, of Reynoldsville, NY, passed away at home on September 17, 2026.

He was born in Montour Falls, NY on April 1, 1945, the eldest child of Hollen C. and Marjorie (Dunbar) Smith.

He is survived by his brother, Thomas (Lillian) of DuBois, PA; sister Susan (Wayne) Dobson of Douglassville, PA; step-brother, Charles Bates of Venice, FL; nieces and nephews, Marjorie of Lemont, PA, Nathan of North Yarmouth, ME, Peter of Hopkinton, MA, Sally of Longmont, CO, Holley Barnes of Bernville, PA, Corrie Mast of Oley, PA, and Bridget Butler of Reading, PA; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Mark graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1963. He farmed with his father at Reynoldsville Stock Farms all of his life. They had Merino sheep, chickens, and primarily Holstein dairy heifers, and did extensive general crop farming.

Mark loved agriculture in its many forms which was his passion. He was a self-taught mechanic and welder, who rebuilt and maintained many farm tractors and extensive types of farm equipment.

He was a member of the Burdett Presbyterian Church and Schuyler County Farm Bureau, and was a devoted student of local history and family genealogy.

A viewing will be held at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 East Fourth Street, Watkins Glen, NY on Friday October 2nd, 2026 from 5-7 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Burdett Presbyterian Church on Saturday October 3, 2026 at 11:00am; followed by the burial at Hector Union Cemetery, and a reception to follow.

Memorial donations in Mark’s memory may be made to the Schuyler County Historical Society or a charity of one’s choice.
