Marleta F. Brown
Age 97, of Rock Stream, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6-8pm on Sunday (April 10th) at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen. A funeral service will follow at 8:00pm. Burial will be held at a later date at Rock Stream Cemetery.
Marleta was born in Big Pond, Pennsylvania on September 6, 1913, to Earl and Florence (Dunham) Leonard. She graduated from Watkins Glen High School and later graduated from the Cortland Normal School in 1933. Mrs. Brown taught at the Southport #8 School, Breesport Union School; and the 7th and 8th grades at Waverly Junior High School until she retired. Marleta was a faithful church member of Newark Valley United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. Later, she joined the Dundee Baptist Church after moving to Rock Stream. She was also an avid quilter and a piano accompanist.
She was predeceased by her husband George W. Brown in 1993, and a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma Jean and Alfred Miller. She is survived by 5 children, Willard Brown of Brewerton, NY; Stephen (Kathy) Brown of Bradley, IL; Leonard Brown of Hagerstown, MD; Meredith Longo of Rock Stream, and Florence Johannes of Danbury, CT; four grandchildren, Christopher (Alice) Brown, Merinda Brown, Marcia (Francisco) Medina, and Brienne Johannes; and 7 great-grandchildren.
