Mary Ann Webster (Cooper)

January 9, 1937 — July 28, 2013

WEBSTER (Cooper)
Mary Ann, 76, of Watkins Glen, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2013 at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, NY, after surviving for almost 30 years with Leukemia and Lymphoma. She was much admired for her strength and grace while fighting these diseases and was an inspiration for many others diagnosed with cancer. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Friday, August 2, 2013 from 11:00am-12:00pm; followed by memorial service and a celebration of her life at 12:00pm at the funeral home; and burial at Pleasant View Cemetery in Reading Center. Mary Ann was born in Toronto, Canada to the late Robert and Bertha Packer on January 9, 1937. She graduated from Keuka College where she received a degree in nursing. She moved to Schuyler County with her first husband, John Cooper, in the late 1960s. She was very involved with Schuyler Hospital having worked there for more than 25 years – first as an RN, then as a Nursing Supervisor and as the Assistant Director of Nurses. In addition, she was a volunteer for the Schuyler Hospital Auxiliary and managed the hospital gift shop for many years. She served as a president of the Watkins Glen-Montour Falls Zonta Club and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Watkins Glen. After retiring from Schuyler Hospital, Mary Ann enjoyed traveling with her husband, Robert Webster, on cruises or to international destinations using his military Space A travel benefits. Later in life, when her immune system prevented her from venturing out among too many people, she developed an extensive international network of friends on Facebook and enjoyed staying in touch with friends electronically. Perhaps her greatest pleasures where spending time with her family and close friends. She enjoyed weekly lunches with friends and visiting Watkins Glen’s farmer’s market. She looked forward to visits from her children and grandchildren. Recently she enjoyed being involved and helping out at her daughter’s new real estate office, Reality Realty in Montour Falls. Mary Ann was predeceased by her parents Robert and Bertha Packer, her husband, Robert W. Webster, and son, Cody Hitchner. Survivors include her three children, Diane Cooper (Bruce Coulombe) of Watkins Glen, Gordon (Jill) Cooper of San Jose, CA, and Nancy (Ray) Oliver of Albrightsville, PA; daughter-in-law, Jill Hitchner of Philadelphia, PA; twin granddaughters, Carly and Megan Hitchner, and grandsons, Evan and Alex Cooper and Mitchel Day. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) or the Watkins Glen Library.
