Paul Olcott

November 30, 1932 — April 4, 2011

The Rev. Paul James Olcott, age 77, of Watkins Glen, passed away April 4, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1933 in Syracuse, N.Y., the son of John and Althea Olcott. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers John, Grant, and Bruce Olcott. Jim earned degrees from Syracuse University and Colgate Divinity. He served as a Methodist minister before entering teaching with the Odessa-Montour schools, from which he retired, and he also taught high-school equivalency courses. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Roberta “Bobbie” Olcott; sons John Thomas, Paul James (Dresden), and Robert Grant (Jamie); four granddaughters, Sarah, Samantha, Aria, and Aurora; sisters-in-law, Nita (Bart) Gould, Suzie (James) Noto, Jodie (Steven) Smith, and Betty, Irene, and Sally Olcott; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His love for adventures in the Adirondacks was second only to his immense love for his family. There will be a celebration of his life at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at Horseheads First United Methodist Church, 1034 West Broad St., Horseheads. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to the Augustin Children’s Center at CP Rochester, 3399 Winton Road South, Rochester, N.Y. 14623.
