Elizabeth “Penny” Titus
Age 74, of Hector, NY, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 in the comfort of her home on Seneca Lake surrounded by her family. Penny was born in Waverly, NY, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude (Schaffer) Wehrung. She graduated from Tioga Central School and began her undergraduate studies at Marywood College. She finished her Masters in Education at Elmira College. She began her teaching career as an art teacher in Waverly, NY but spent the majority of her career teaching art to the students at Odessa-Montour School. This is where she shared her passion of art, travel and culture with a countless number of students. Penny’s legacy as an art teacher still lives on in many of her former students who are now art teachers as well. In addition to teaching, Penny also was very active in her church community particularly with the music ministry. She was predeceased by her parents, and a brother Jon Wehrung. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years this month, Lee Titus; children, Jennifer Titus, Rebecca (Brian) Ross, and Lee (Astra) Titus; brother, Paul (Mary Ann) Wehrung; and grandchildren, Makayla, Madeleine, José, and Hank; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Wednesday (March 22nd) from 5pm-7pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church on Thursday (March 23rd) at 11:00am.
