Ray Oliver Sr.

Ray A. Oliver, Sr.

Age 72, of Moreland, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at home, the same day as his brother John Oliver. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife Pauline E. Oliver on March 25, 2009.


He is survived by his children, Cynthia (Michael) Stansfield of Horseheads, Lorie Oliver (Steve) of Watkins Glen, Ray Oliver, Jr. (Nancy) of Lake Harmony, PA; five grandchildren, John (Kristin) Rider, Jamielyn (Jeff) Swartz, Ray A. Oliver III, Jolie Rider (Michael), Sheena (Joseph) Haynes, and Karen Little; six great-grandchildren; special friend Charles Stoddard; and a brother and several sisters.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Friday (October 15th) from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 8:00pm; Rev. Anne Campbell officiating. A committal service will be held Saturday at 10am at Beaver Dams Cemetery.


Ray loved his family, community and especially racing. He was a member of numerous groups and organizations, and a volunteer. Ray was a member of the Moreland Presbyterian Church, the Moreland and Townsend Granges, member of the Glen Region SCCA, past Fire Chief of Beaver Dams Fire Department and a NYS Fire Instructor and a Boy Scout Leader. He formerly worked for Westinghouse and Shepard-Niles. Ray especially loved volunteering for the numerous group and organizations each Christmas season, as Santa Clause. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and this community.
