Richard L. Clawson (Butch)

Of Valois, NY, passed away on June 15, 2021 at the age of 74 after a long battle with cancer. Butch was born in Seneca Falls, New York on June 18, 1946; son of Lewis and Roween Clawson.

A 1964 graduate of Watkins Glen Central School, he was a drummer in the high school band and also a member of the football and baseball team. He graduated from Corning Community College in 1966 and RIT in 1969 in Rochester, NY, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was married on June 8, 1968 to Lucy (Tuma) Clawson. He worked on construction for 35 years with Streeters Associates of Elmira. Butch was also a bus driver for the South Seneca Central School District for 17 years. He was a Past Master of the Myrtle-Jefferson Lodge #131 in Montour Falls. He was also a member of the Seneca Union Cemetery Assoc. in Valois.

Butch and his wife Lucy took over the family grape farm in 1978. Butch took great pride in farming his vineyards. He and his wife enjoyed going to the Pickin’ in the Pasture Bluegrass Festival at their dear friends Alexander’s sheep farm in Lodi every summer.

He is survived by Lucy Clawson, wife of 53 years; daughters, Brenda Clawson (Heath Strassburg) and Madison (granddaughter) of Hector; daughter Marcy (Kasey) Ofinowicz and Hannah (granddaughter) of Rochester; sister, Shirley Gleisner of Rochester; sisters-in-law, Christina Wise of Jacksonville, FL, and Lois Tuma of Corning; nephews, Gregory Gleisner of Rochester, and Scott Tuma of Painted Post; nieces, Deborah Mateyka of Rochester, Suzanne Blanchard of Horseheads; niece and Goddaughter, Marybeth Peigler of Jacksonville, FL; Goddaughter, Sarah Melnyk of Elmira; cousins, Jan Scofield of Titusville, FL, and Marie Baumgardner and David Ely, both of Burdett.

A private family funeral and Masonic service will be held at the convenience of the family. In Lieu of Flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Myrtle-Jefferson Lodge #131, P.O.
