Robert D. “Pete” Simpson, Sr.
Age 68, of Bennettsburg, NY, went to be with his Lord in Heaven on Feb. 16, 2015. The family will receive visitors at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Friday, Feb. 20th, from 2pm-5pm; followed by a funeral service at 5:00pm at the funeral home and a reception at the Reynolds United Methodist Church. He is survived by wife Denise; daughter Deborah (Craig); son Robert Jr.; step-daughters, Kelly and Kari and Star; brothers, Frank, and Ron (Caroline); sister, Bev (Ron) Cervoni; half-brother Harry (Tina) Smith; step-brothers, George (Bernice) Smith, Kirk (Linda) Smith, and Ricky Smith; grandchildren, Mitch, Micaela, Gwendolyn, Tiana, and Dezaray; step-grandchildren, Ryan, Logan, Hunter and Jackson; nieces and nephews, Amy (Pat) Liddle, Jeannette (Shawn) Gilbert, Vicky and Anthony Simpson, Ben (Eva) Smith, Jesse Smith, and Walker Smith. He was predeceased by his father, Frank Simpson, mother, Alberta Smith; brother, Donald Simpson, and nephews Jeff and Jason Cervoni. Pete proudly served in the US Army in Vietnam. He continued his service to Veterans’, volunteering to drive them to numerous medical appointments. He also frequently served as an honor guard at Veteran’s funeral services. He was lovingly known as “The Mayor of Bennettsburg”. He was a member of the American Legion Post 676 of Odessa. Pete loved to hunt with the boy’s, watch NASCAR and follow his grand-daughter Micaela in sports. He also loved taking his grandson Jackson to Scouts, fishing and teaching him about everything.
