Robert Mark Swinnerton, Sr.

March 7, 1944 — February 17, 2018

Robert Mark Swinnerton Sr., age 73 of Hector, NY, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving and devoted family after a courageous battle with cancer. Rob was born on March 7, 1944 in Princeton, NJ; the son of the late Edward and Madeline Swinnerton. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1962, and from Syracuse University in 1966, and achieved his MS from Alfred University in January 1982.

Rob was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend and community leader. Rob was most proud of his 50-year marriage to the love of his life, Jean Peck Swinnerton. He was a hardworking husband and father who did everything for his family. Family unit was central to his life. In addition to his wife, Rob is survived by his daughter Tammy Clarkson (Kristopher) of Watkins Glen, his son Mark Swinnerton of Watkins Glen, and daughter Amy Swinnerton of Hector. Rob loved every moment he spent with his beautiful grandchildren, Bryson, Alec, Kathleen, Sarah, Ellie, Alexis, Brianna, Benjamin and Evan. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Edward (Johanna), Sally Logue (Robert), James, Sharon, Richard (Ellen) and Stanley (Darlene).

He was a life member of Lions International with over 50 years of service. Lionism and his tireless commitment to community service were unwavering examples of Rob’s moral fabric and only second to his enduring devotion to this family. He always gave generously of this time for causes and institutions for which he was passionate about. Rob was an Elk and chaired many capital campaigns and served as a member and lead of many boards. He was a dedicated Christian who served as a Deacon and Elder for his church. He chaired the capital campaign program at the Hector Church and was the Cemetery Superintendent for many years.

Rob’s journey through life has touched so many. He began his career in 1967 as a social worker at Corning Hospital. He advanced his career in hospital administration and became the administrator for the hospital from 1979 until 1983. He later became CEO of Schuyler Hospital in 1986 through 1997. He made his last professional career move as Chief Executive Officer at Seagate Alliance until 2007, when he retired and started his own business doing what he loved most, landscaping and mowing on a Gizmo lawnmower.

Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends on Friday (March 2nd) from 5-8pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 520 N. Decatur St., Watkins Glen. HONORING ROBERT’S SERVICE IN LIONISM, A CEREMONY WILL BE CONDUCTED AT 7:45PM BY THE LION’S CLUB. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at the church on Saturday (March 3rd) at 10:00am followed by a reception. A private burial will be held at the family’s convenience.
