Robert W. Webster, Retired Captain USAF, Age 73, of Co. Rt. 17, Watkins Glen, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 14, 2010. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Tuesday (Oct. 19th) from 6-8pm; with a funeral service immediately following at 8:00pm: Rev. Jeanne Bleiler officiating. A committal service with military honors will be held Thursday (Oct. 21st) at 2:00 pm at Pleasant View Cemetery, Reading Center, N.Y.
In 1960 Bob had the distinction of being the first male to graduate from the Robert Packer School of Nursing in Sayre, PA. He later became a Nursing Instructor there before joining the U.S. Air Force. While stationed in Japan he was a member of the traveling Dialysis Team. In Vietnam he served with the 903rd AMES as a flight nurse and was a TET Offensive survivor. Bob retired from Schuyler Hospital as a Nursing Supervisor. He was a private pilot and a former member of the Dundee Flying Club. He was also a member of the VFW Post 7624 of Watkins Glen, N.Y. Bob enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish, bow hunt, ski, sail his Hobie Cats and ride his motorcycle.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Ann (Packer) Webster; also a daughter, Laura Spearman Marcy of Newfield; step-children, Diane A. Cooper (Bruce) of Watkins Glen; Gordon D. (Jill) Cooper of Los Gatos, CA, and Nancy J. Cooper (Ray), of Lake Harmony, PA; brother, Vernon (Marion) Webster of Rock Stream; sister-in-law, Anita Webster of Springfield, NE; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Welles and Martha (Smith) Webster; brother, Donald J. Webster; and sister, Lucille (Webster) Huff.
