Sara Elizabeth Gifford, Passed away January 22, 2007 at the Seneca View SNF in Montour Falls, NY, at the age of 96. Sara (Betty) was born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 10, 1910 to Imogene Adee and Arthur Moore Shiebler. She attended public schools in Brooklyn and Pratt Institute. After moving to Babylon, she met and married Stuart L. Gifford. In 1953, they relocated to the Watkins Glen area where she lived until her death. Betty loved having her family with her, her friends, reading, decorating her home or her dollhouse, and volunteering at Schuyler Hospital or wherever she was needed. Betty was always out and about in her beloved community. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Watkins Glen, the Watkins Glen Golf Club and the Schuyler Hospital Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her husband, Stuart in 1973; her sister, Virginia; and brothers, Howard, Jack and Kingsley. She is survived by her children, Virginia (Jim) Gray of Oriental, NC; son, Thomas (Carole) Gifford of Montour Falls, Midge (Dominick) Franzese of Watkins Glen; grandchildren, Conde (MaryBeth) Thorn, Elizabeth Thorn, Marcia Thorn, Margaret Franzese Cook, Julie Franzese Bonzo, Paul (Kathleen) Gifford, Dulcie (James) Champion, Deborah (Chris) Zentz; and 20 great-grandchildren. We will all miss you. A Memorial Service will be held in her memory on Friday, April 27th, 2007. Visititing hours will be held at the funeral home from 3-4pm. The Memorial Service will follow at 4:00pm. Memorials may be made to either The Watkins Public Library or Friends of Schuyler Hospital. Arrangements by Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, Watkins Glen.
