William H. Rice
Age 57, of Watkins Glen, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on December 14, 2012. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Wednesday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 520 N. Decatur St., Watkins Glen; Rev. Beverly Karr-Lyon will officiate; followed by burial at Montour Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Adam Rice of Watkins Glen and Portsmouth, VA; mother, Marjorie Rice of Watkins Glen; sister and brother-in-law, Kathie and Daryl VonNeida of Montour Falls; mother-in-law, Clara Wheaton of Montour Falls; sisters-in-law, Clara (Ted) Pike of Montour Falls, Florence (Terry) Wheatcraft, of Addison, Carol Wheaton (fiancé Robert Levis) of Addison, Michelle (Paul) Holley of Sinclairville; brother-in-law, Fred (Mary) Wheaton, of Montour Falls; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his father, James Rice. Bill served on the Watkins Glen Police Department for 25 years, recently retiring in 2010. He currently worked for Security at Watkins Glen International. He was a member of the Watkins Glen P.B.A., B.P.O.E. Lodge #1546, V.F.W. Post #2674, Empire State Cruizers Car Club, and past member of the Watkins Glen Volunteer Fire Department. He was very generous in his support of Seneca Santa, Children’s Miracle Network, the P.B.A, and an American Red Cross blood donor. Bill was also well known as an avid gun collector and a PT Cruiser car enthusiast. Those wishing to remember Bill, may consider a memorial donation in his memory to Seneca Santa, P.B.A., Children’s Miracle Network, American Red Cross, or charity of one’s choice.
